Law of Attraction

Well, apparently Oprah had a special show dedicated to the film "The Secret" last week. This is one of the two things that I encountered earlier this year that's been basically rewriting how I approach my life. The film can come across like "new age informercial" (quoting a good friend of mine) so I've been hesitant to identify it specifically in my blog. But since Oprah showed it, I'm sure the concept can now be accepted as "mainstream." ;)

The concept of Law of Attraction is nothing new. It's just being repackaged and the information has been presented to me in a few different ways. What's really gratifying to me is 1) my experiences is consistent with the theory, and 2) I see parallels/references to it all over the Bible, making it very compatible with the Christian world view, my foundation.

The core idea is very simple. Whatever you think and feel, you attract more of it.

But the implications are very profound. Notice I said "think and feel." Prayers/wishes/intentions are only half complete as an initiative to make them come true. For example, if I want money but was consumed by the stress of how little I have, then I'm attracting more of that stingy state into my life. If I want more money, then I need to intend on having money and feel like I already do.

The second part is the tricky part. State of joy and abundance is hard to create, even just in your mind, when you're faced with difficulty -- or worse yet -- if you have not experienced it in your life. We can have scripts and conditioning in place, often engrained before we're really self-aware, that makes the state of anxiety, worry and stress the normal part of life. The worst of all is depression. Depression is a disease where you are really incapable of being happy or joyful. What would you attract if you're depressed? More depression!

Just as it takes more than overnight for a person to be so unbalanced that worry, anxiety and stress become normal part of life, so it does with undoing it and making peace, joy and happiness the normal state of life. But this transition is possible, though it takes time. Will you get started if someone told you 10 years from now you can be happy if you do some exercise everyday? That's an overwhelming amont of time. But the motivation is much easier to come by if you know that in 10 days you'll feel better if not good. Little by little, you set good wheels in the motion. You may be surprised by how quickly things change, once the change has momentum.

I think we (my wife and I) are in the midst. And having come to this understanding, I feel that things will get better faster, maybe dramatically, from here on. I still have some scripts and conditioning that I can't get rid of by myself, but we know where to go to get help for that -- like our homeopath and our shiatsu therapist. Once we get rid of that, then there will be nothing left that will keep us from being joyful.

Thank God.

I agree with your comments in relation to the Law of Attraction becoming mainstream. What concerns me in the over commercialization that is taking place such as the concept you can have anything you want just by thinking about it. The reality is that the Law of Attraction provided only the steps, you have to work for it to achieve reality.

I try to get this accross on my web site physicsofgettingwealthy dot com providing a range of views and reflections to past centuries to show the law has been with us over the ages not just today.
