My Latest Production Is Released

Irish Drinking Songs

The little album I produced, Marc Gunn's Irish Drinking Songs: The Cat Lover's Companion is now released. It seems that the pre-release buzz from Marc's fans are fairly positive. I'm grateful.

This one happened over the same period as all the drama surrounding the birth of my son, so as of now I'm still recovering from the straing of having to finish this project (which was supposed to be finished way before the birth). This is the project that made me realize that under the current condition, I cannot really make myself available to any substantial work as a producer or a composer -- anything involving holding myself accountable to other people.

I'm glad I haven't taken on any music projects since then (though web work has been coming in steadily -- there's always something!) I do miss working on the music. Marc has been a terrific person to work with, and don't get me wrong, the project was way fun. I think Marc and I crafted an interesting sound on this album -- strumming autoharp and finger-picked acoustic guitar holding up the bass end is something neither of us can recall hearing before. I haven't listened to it since I finished, but I'm sure some time later I'll listen to it again and will be pleasantly surprised by how good it is. It always happens like that to me. Right after I finish it I'm still bemoaning over this mistake or that imperfection. But after the tides of time take away the microscopic eyes/ears, I can begin to appreciate my past for the overall value.

Now, that's not to say that I'm not working on any music. In fact, my album production is back under way -- more on that in another post.
